Located in the back of the fuel injection pump.
The suction control valve (SCV) regulates the correct amount of fuel pressure to the injection pump. The purpose of the injection pump on common rail diesels (CRD) is to compress a certain amount of fuel to maintain fuel rail pressure, which feed the injectors. The SCV is ECU operated which regulates the amount of fuel needed for all driving and load conditions.
The SCV is a wear item and will have a certain life span. The SCV can also suffer from electrical malfunction and fuel contamination causing the vehicle to go into limp mode. Because the SCV is operated via the ECU a relearning or calibration may be required using garage Diagnostic equipment.
