How To Replace Qashqai Engine Oil

Replacing the oil of your Qashqai is much simpler than many think. However, before you begin, you will need the following pieces of equipment.

  • Ratchet and socket set
  • Gloves – Oil on your hands can be a nightmare to get off
  • Paper towels to clean up afterwards
  • Car Oil Drain Pan for old oil
  • New oil filter
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Funnel for new oil
  • Car Ramp or Jack
  •  Owners Manual
  • New Fully Synthetic car oil – we recommend Fuchs Titan 5W-40 1 Litre (Fully Synthetic)

Follow the steps below for a successful oil change. There are 3 key stages to changing your vehicle’s oil

  • How To Drain Old Oil
  • How To Replace Old Oil Filter With Your New One
  • How To Add New Oil To Your Qashqai

Let’s break this down step by step

How To Drain Qashqai Old Oil – Step 1

  • Jack your Qashqai up safely, or drive your vehicle up ramps.
  • Locate Oil Drain Plug.
  • Place Oil Dran Pan under Oil Tank
  • Use Your Socket and Ratchet To Loosen Oil Drain Plug – Anticlockwise (Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosely)
  • Wait For Your Oil To Fully Drain Out – Car Oil Tends To Drop For Approximately 20 Minutes
  • Screw Back In Your Drain Plug and Tighten With Your Socket and Ratchet (Clockwise)

How To Replace Your Old Oil Filter With Your New One – Step 2

  • Locate Your Oil Filter
  • Make Sure Your Oil Catch Pan is Below Oil Filter
  • Loosen and Remove Your Existing Oil Filter By Hand or With a Wrench
  • Grab Your New Filter
  • Pre-Oil Your New Filter With Your New Oil – Doing This Prevents Your Car From Running Dry When You First Start it up (note – you may not be able to pre-oil your new filter if your filter has to be attached upside down or sideways)
  • Rub a Little Oil Around The Gasket Of Your New Filter
  • Screw-In Your New Oil Filter With Your Hand

How To Add A New Oil To Your Qashqai – Step 3

  • Locate Your Engine Oil Filler Cap – You may need to clean your engine oil filler cap, so no grime falls into your engine.
  • Unscrew Your Oil Filler Cap and Place Somewhere Safe
  • Place Your Funnel Into The Hole Vacated By The Oil Filler Cap
  • Fill Your Vehicle With The New Engine Oil to The Correct Level
  • Remove Your Oil Funnel
  • Screw-In Your Engine Oil Filler Cap
  • Wipe Any Spilt Oil

Once you have completed the steps above, take your vehicle off the jacks or ramps and start your vehicle.

Upon starting, make sure no oil light comes on. If no oil light comes on, that means the engine is getting oil.

Now, Turn off the engine, and let the oil sit for approximately 5 minutes allowing it to cool down.

Locate your oil dipstick, take it out and wipe it with a towel.

Put the dipstick back in, and check the oil level is at the maximum amount.

Please be aware, if you have too much oil in your Qashqai, make sure you drain some of it out, otherwise this will cause problems with your car. You can remove the oil by following step 1.

And there you have it, you’re now an oil changing master.

Qashqai J11 Owners Manual – Download the official Nissan Qashqai J11 owners manual and go to section 8.8 for their advice on changing your cars oil.

Nissan Qashqai Sump Plug

A sump plug is the bolt that prevents your oil from escaping your engine sump.

Many people believe you should replace a sump plug every time you change your oil. With good reason, you don’t want to be leaking oil after changing it all thanks to a worn sump plug.

Your sump plug is located on your oil tank and is located underneath your engine. You will either need to raise your vehicle with a jack or ramps to find it.
